Blooming : Where Flowers Meet Culture

[전시를 열며: Prologue]

오랜 시간 꽃과 그 향기는 우리 삶과 늘 함께였다. 꽃은 피고 지며 열매를 맺는 과정에서 우리에게 먹거리와 정서적인 가치를 전해주었다. 이번 전시는

꽃이 자연에서 우리의 삶 속으로 들어와 문화와 산업으로 이어지는 과정을 소장품으로 들여다본다. 우리의 삶에 깃든 문화를 살펴보며, 꽃의 의미를 함께 나누고자 한다.

Flowers and their fragrances have long been with us. As they bloom, fade, and bear fruit, flowers provide both food and emotional value.

This exhibition uses our collection to show how flowers moved from nature into our lives, connecting culture and industry. We invite you to explore this cultural journey and share the deep meaning of

flowers.

[1. 가까이 머물다: Blooming Close]

꽃이 피고 지며 열매를 맺고 씨앗을 남기는 과정은 농사의 중요한 요소다. 들판의 꽃은 사람의 손길이 더해져 정원과 뜰 안으로 들어왔다. 꽃은 회화와 공예품 속에서 피어나며 우리 곁에 머물렀다. 궁궐에서는 꽃과 과실을 재배하고 관리하는 관청을 두었고, 사대부들은 정원에서 꽃을 기르며 자연의 이치와 조화를 배웠다.

The process of blooming, fading, and leaving seeds is a key element of agriculture. Wildflowers moved into yards and gardens through human hands. They stayed by our side, blooming within paintings and crafts. The royal court established specialized offices to manage flowers and fruits. Scholar-officials grew flowers in their gardens, learning the laws and harmony of nature. Flowers and gardens reflected our culture, capturing natural beauty and deep reflection.

[2. 울타리 안에서 피우다: Blooming Through Daily Life]

꽃은 오랜 시간 우리의 일상 속으로 스며들며 삶에 정서적 풍요를 더해주었다. 우리 선조들은 상징과 의미를 담은 꽃을 회화와 공예품에 담아 오래도록 가까이 두고자 했다. 꽃을 기르고 누려온 문화는 점차 생활 안에 자리 잡으며, 우리 삶에 의미와 아름다움을 전하는 존재로 피어났다.

Flowers have naturally woven into our daily routines, enriching our minds. Our ancestors captured the symbols and meanings of flowers in paintings

and crafts to keep them close. This culture of growing and enjoying flowers gradually shaped everyday life, blooming to bring meaning and beauty to our world.

[3. 손끝에서 피우다: Blooming by Fingertips]

조선 후기에는 꽃을 즐기는 문화가 궁궐과 반가를 넘어 점차 많은 사람에게 퍼져나갔다. 꽃을 담은 병풍과 민화는 행복, 부귀 등을 기원하는 생활 그림으로 자리 잡았다. 꽃과 함께 등장하는 벌레들은 생명의 순환을 상징했다. 꽃은 자연과 농업의 연결 속에서 새로운 결실을 만들어가는 존재였다.

During the late Joseon period, the culture of enjoying flowers expanded from palaces and noble homes to the general public. Folding screens

and folk paintings became everyday arts used to wish for happiness and wealth. Insects appearing alongside flowers symbolized the cycle of life.

Within the connection between nature and agriculture, flowers were a vital presence creating new beginnings.

[화훼산업의 오늘과 내일: The Present and Future of Floriculture]

1960년대 이후 기반을 마련한 화훼산업은 사회, 경제적 흐름과 함께 변화하며 새로운 생활문화 사업으로 확장되었다.

Having built its foundation since the 1960s, the floriculture industry evolved alongside social and economic trends. It has now expanded into a new lifestyle and cultural business.
